DJI Pocket 3 Horizontal HDMI Output with External USB Gimbal Control
Connecting to ATEM Mini Pro Video Switcher
DJI Pocket 3 Vertical HDMI Output with External USB Gimbal Control
Recently,
I’ve been researching how to control the DJI Pocket 3 gimbal via an external USB controller while outputting HDMI signals in both landscape and portrait orientations.
I experimented with two different adapter devices, and here is a summary of the actual operation:
USB Gimbal and DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Integration
- Landscape HDMI + USB Gimbal Control
- Portrait HDMI + USB Gimbal Control
Device 1: Single USB Interface Converter (Requires HUB)

Important: You must contact me for the correct firmware and operating instructions.
1. Use Case:
- Suitable for indoor fixed camera setups with a lower cost.
2. Setup Steps:
- Connect Pocket 3 via a UVC-HDMI dual-mode converter.
- Since it has only one USB interface, an additional USB HUB is needed to split into two connections:
- One for the Pocket 3 camera
- One for the USB gimbal controller
3. Disadvantages:
- Requires an external HUB, making the setup bulkier.
Device 2: USB Camera Video Converter ("Red Box")
Product link: (USB webcam streaming adapter)

Important: You must contact me for the correct firmware and operating instructions.
1. Advantages:
- Ideal for outdoor mobile live streaming with enhanced functionality.
2. Connection Setup:
- Connect Pocket 3 via the Webcam interface.
- Connect the USB gimbal via the storage interface.
- Additionally supports iOS output, HDMI output, UVC output, and HUB recording.
3. Suitability:
- Highly flexible but comes at a higher cost.

Device Selection Recommendations:
- For indoor fixed setups: Choose the white model.
- For outdoor mobile use: Opt for the integrated "Red Box" solution.
Verification of Results
- In landscape mode, gimbal control is smooth, and the image can be switched in real-time via the video switcher.
- In portrait mode, additional settings are required, but a full-screen, black-border-free output is achieved (commercial converters typically have black borders).
Conclusion
By using different adapter devices, the DJI Pocket 3 can flexibly accommodate both landscape and portrait control needs.
